Dear Friends
In my nineteen years with S.E.A., I have witnessed time and again the profound transformative power this organization can have in the lives of young people and their families. It is, therefore with great honor, that I assume the new role of leadership as S.E.A.’s new executive director. I will always remember that much of what S.E.A. is today we owe to the leadership of Cesar Calderon. His unexpected death in January was a profound loss to me personally, and to everyone who knew him.

As we embark on S.E.A.’s fortieth year, we realize that there is much work to do. One of our most important goals is to support the passage of SB 298, a bill sponsored by State Senator Kevin De Leòn, which will allow the S.E.A. Charter School to renew its charter through 2018. We will also expand S.E.A.’s Youth Peace Movement, a program that uses Nobel Peace Laureates as roles models to teach youth that it is possible to bring about peace in our communities. Finally, we are embarking on a new program for socially entrepreneurship through which we will create jobs for our youth, and increase self-sufficiency for S.E.A.

In the coming months we want to work with each of you to help build an even stronger S.E.A., where every facet of the organization is enriched and improved.

Nathan Arias
S.E.A. President & CEO
